
Company Founder/ President
Mike Bernath
Starting as an apprentice in 1985 Mike has decades of mechanical, steamfitting, and boiler experience. He has spent his entire career in the boiler and piping industry. In 1990, he graduated from a 5-year apprenticeship program through UA Local 290 out of Portland, Oregon and has worked for several prominent companies that specialized in boiler, combustion and steam systems, In 1993 he founded NW Industrial Mechanics, Inc. and in 1999 founded Boiler House Sales and Service NW.
Mike has been involved in all aspects of the boiler industry ranging from sales, service, installation and repair and is diversified in steam system design. He also assists customers in improving and maximizing boiler and steam systems for reliable and efficient operation, focusing on boilers, boiler room equipment and accessories, combustion, controls, heat recovery, condensate recovery, and preventative maintenance. He has been involved in every aspect of projects from the certified welder to project manager.
In addition to his qualifications and experience, Mike wrote and developed the Quality Control (QC) Program in 1999 that has been accepted by the ASME. Because of this QC Program NW Industrial Mechanics, Inc. is an ASME authorized Power Piping (PP) Stamp holder and a National Board Repair (R) Stamp holder which allows NWIM to build stamped Power Piping, repair and alter boilers and pressure vessels. Since 1999 this program has been renewed and approved by the ASME and National Board every three years.

Service Technician
Ron Bernath
Ron has been working in the boiler industry since 1968. He joined the NWIM team in 1995. Ron specializes with wood fired/hog fuel and dust boilers. He is proficient in boiler operator training and has written and published multiple Standard Operating Procedure Manuals. Ron retired in 2010 but continues working alongside his dedicated customers.

Construction Manager/ Quality Control Manager
Chris Nelson
Chris has over 3 decades of steamfitting and boiler related experience and has been a part of the NW Industrial Mechanics, Inc. since 1994. In 2002, he graduated from a 5-year steamfitter apprenticeship program through UA Local 290 out of Portland, Oregon. Chris specializes in boiler and piping projects, maintains the Quality Control program and coordinates, prepares and dispatches construction jobs from the Vancouver office.
Additionally, Chris has been involved in all aspects of the boiler industry ranging from both inside and outside sales, service, estimating, preparing bids and job walkthroughs for future construction jobs, installation and repair including pipe fitting, welding, steam systems, equipment installation and project management. He has a strong background in steam systems, installations and how they function. He also tracks and prepares all of NW Industrial Mechanics, Inc. work involved with the R-Stamp and PP Stamp program. He has the ability to design and build steam systems and is well versed with all piping system control. He can design and build pneumatic or electric pressure reducing, diverting or relieving systems for steam, water or gas with the proper control valves in place to accomplish a customer’s specific needs.
Chris values his ability to “get the job done on time, on budget and on schedule” and strives to keep a close relationship with each individual customer ensuring they are informed and satisfied of progress throughout the job. He prides himself with trying to better both himself and NW Industrial Mechanics, Inc. by bringing new ideas and streamlining processes to conduct business quickly and efficiently.

Service Manager
Terry McAndrew
Terry joined NW Industrial Mechanics, Inc. in 2011 as an apprentice in the UA Local 290 HVAC/R Apprenticeship Program and has since advanced to become our Service Manager, bringing a wealth of expertise in boiler service, mechanical systems, and control panel fabrication. With hands-on experience across service, large-scale construction projects, and our UL 508 Panel Shop, Terry’s versatility makes him an invaluable part of our team.
His extensive certifications and technical expertise reinforce his ability to deliver high-quality service, precision workmanship, and reliable solutions for our customers. Holding an Oregon State Class 5 Boiler License, he has a deep understanding of boiler operation, safety, and compliance, ensuring that every system he works on meets the highest industry standards. As a Certified ASME Section IX Welder, he brings specialized skills in high-pressure and code-compliant welding, essential for maintaining and repairing critical industrial systems. Additionally, his certification as a Licensed Liquefied Petroleum Fitter and membership in the Oregon Boiler and Pressure Vessel Association demonstrate his dedication to staying at the forefront of industry advancements.
With OSHA 30 Construction Safety and Health training, Terry prioritizes safety, efficiency, and customer satisfaction, ensuring that every project—from routine service calls to complex mechanical installations—is handled with technical precision and a commitment to excellence. Whether troubleshooting a boiler system, managing a large-scale construction project, or building and integrating custom control panels, Terry’s technical acumen and problem-solving skills make him a critical asset to NWIM and a trusted resource for our clients.

Steamfitter
Ethan Pasztor
Ethan joined NW Industrial Mechanics, Inc. in 2015, bringing with him over a decade of experience in the boiler industry. Since starting his career in 2005, he has developed expertise in boiler operation, mechanical system troubleshooting, welding, and pipe fitting, making him a versatile and highly skilled service technician. His ability to diagnose and repair complex mechanical systems ensures that NWIM customers receive efficient, high-quality service with minimal downtime.
Holding an Oregon State Class 5 Boiler License, Ethan is well-versed in boiler operation, maintenance, and regulatory compliance, ensuring that every system he works on meets strict industry standards. As a Certified Welder, his precision craftsmanship contributes to the integrity and reliability of piping and pressure vessel systems. He is also Cleaver Brooks Electrical Controls Certified and KN Boiler Start-Up Certified, demonstrating his expertise in modern boiler control systems and startup procedures. His OSHA 10 Construction Safety and Health training reinforces his commitment to workplace safety and best practices, making him a reliable and conscientious technician in the field.

Office Manager
Maureen Nelson
Maureen joined the NWIM team in 1997 as Office Manager. Her experience amounts to nearly 50 years of accounting in both public and private sectors. Her accounting career started in payroll where she continued to grow her career into Human Resources, accounts payable and accounts receivable. In 2003 she received her Credit Business Associate and continues to use her vast knowledge of accounting with NWIM.
